Space Clearing for Renewed Energy -- Beliefnet.com

A great article! I need to take some of its advice!

Challenger's lessons prove elusive - Yahoo! News

In reading this article yesterday, I couldn't help but agree more with the author.
The pursuit of the unknown is still a very worthy cause and we need to retire the space shuttle as soon as possible.

Strange to think that the Challenger tragedy happened 20 years ago...

Oddly enough, Brian and I watched my brother's 9th grade basketball game in the gym of Christa McAuliffe Middle School in Bangor Township. It is the home of the comets. Interestingly enough, the high school next door is John Glen, home of the Bobcats.
It is amazing that both are named after heros of the space program.

SignOnSanDiego.com > News > Mexico -- 2,400-foot tunnel 'beats them all'

This article exemplifies all that is wrong in the border region today. We need to do something to protect our border, but no one wants to do anything because it is politically "incorrect."

I love Mexico, but something has to give.

GREETINGS FROM NEW ORLEANS

An amazing find from Yahoo! Pics...

A true work of art born out of hurricane Katrina...
I truly regret that I didn't take the opportunity to visit New Orleans while I lived in Houston - Before Katrina.
Too late now.

Bob Perk's on how to 'begin again' after facing difficult challenges in life. -- Beliefnet.com

I found this piece extremely inspirational and I hope that you will too!

L

To begin again means that you won't give up.
To begin again means you're trying.
You can either start over and live your life
Or spend the rest of your life slowly dying.

It is never the falling that makes us fail.
It is never the pain or the crying.
You can never fail in life, my friend,
Unless you give up trying.

    Maquilas que Matan

An incredibly intriguing blog for anyone who cares about human rights and Mexico...

I wish liberals would wake up and realize that the problems in Mexico, especially regarding the border region, are much more complex than many are led to believe. All the way around it is a tragic situation. I really wish I had solutions...

    Valentine's Day...

    Image hosting by Photobucket

I couldn't help it; I was absolutely drawn to this picture I came across in a blog.
It reminded me of that lonely Valentine's Day I spent in Spain in 2002.
Fortunately, that is all very far behind me and Brian and I are closer than ever...

Honestly, I think the only thing that could me happier would be a new job...
I never expected the love of my life was right under my nose...

Then again, that is pretty common, isn't it?

    More later...

Another blog of interest... Something about the tone just drew me in. It reminded me of my carefree travel days in Spain...

Of course, I couldn't help but be drawn in by the title.

Once again, I find this blog to be incredibly insightful, especially the open letter to the judiciary committee and the entry regarding abortion.

I for one will be following this blog!

    The Dream - Professional Organizing

I just wanted to share an e-mail I received from a reader who was interested in my idea for a professional organizing business... It really intriqued me, and I hope she - or anyone else out there - can offer insight or advice. Please note that I included my response as well.

    Lindsey

    Ali -

I apologize for not getting back to you much earlier... I've been very sick.

First off, very cool that you are a librarian! I have always been a bit of a bibliophile!
Secondly, my organizing business is still very much just a dream... I am a 25 year old 2004 Michigan State graduate who is trying to get her career going again.

Here are my biggest issues with regards to starting a professional organizing business:

    1. I really need a traditional job at this point in my life, if just for the benefits.

    2. I have tons of ideas for such a business, but I am a bit apprehensive about putting them into action. Right now, I don't know how to do that and make a reasonable profit.

    3. Start up money, start up money, start up money!

    4. Local competition. While I still lived in Texas, I contacted a woman who works as a professional organizer in the Bay City/Saginaw (Michigan) area.

She told me that her husband's good paying job w/benefits allowed her the time and money to work at creating this business. While my fiance just landed a great new job, there is no way we could work it out at this point.

Please feel free to write back with ideas! I outlined everything in hopes that you may be able to provide insight.

Thank you and please keep reading my blog.

    Hi, Lindsey,
I'm a librarian, so a fan of organizing & taxonomies.
I just played around with creating a blog tonite since my son is a glacial
eater and I finished dinner about 30 minutes ago.
When I entered my interests, yours is one of 3 blogs that came up with a
    cross reference to 'professional organizing'.
    Just thought I'd check in.
I've often thought of starting my own organizing consultancy but have taken
no steps to actualizing other than discussing it at cocktail parties and
    daydreaming while commuting.
    Let me know.

One Hell of A Ride - Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish 2005

First off, I owe everyone an explanation. The past month and a half has been utterly insane.
It all started a couple of weeks before Christmas when my Dad was hospitalized. Fortunately, he is fine now, though he is battling depression. Happily, he and my Mom have decided not to divorce and are working things out.

Just as things were getting back to normal - the annual Birthday Brunch for my cousin Grant, my sister Erica and I; my Dad coming home; etc... I became extremely sick.

It started on Dec. 20th with a nasty head cold (congestion, headaches, cough, etc.) and by the 23rd, I was sick enough to miss out on a great family holiday party. Fortunately, I pulled it together for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and even the day after Christmas (Brian and I had our own little celebration). After that, I absolutely had no energy.

In addition to the head cold, I ended up getting hives. My skin started peeling and it was all unbelievably nasty. I might have had a very high fever, I'm not sure. Anyway, I pretty much stayed in bed for almost 2 weeks. Just as I thought I was getting better, I would suddenly become worse. Once again, I pulled it together for New Year's Eve... As many may know, I was particularly anxious for 2005 to be behind me.

Well, after all was said and done, I ended up losing 10 lbs. and had one messy apartment. Even last week, I still had no energy to pull my life together (clean, organize, write, search for a new job, E-Bay, etc, etc.).

During all of this huge mess, Brian received some wonderful news! He now has a great job at Case Systems in Midland, Michigan. He received it on Jan. 3, my Dad's birthday no less. Right now, he is working as a database administrator. While he could comfortably support the two of us on his salary, I need a job! I need to get out of the house, have benefits, so on so forth...

It has been difficult to sit home all day every day just knowing that there is so much out there you want to accomplish, so much you can offer.

So, that is where I stand. Thus far, 2006 has been much more generous than 2005, even if I have been sick. I can only hope that things are finally coming together for Brian and me.

    Love,

    Lindsey
